As lauded as it might be today The Sands Of Time was only a minor hit when first released and so the sequel was made more xtreme, with the Prince turned into a snarling, unlikeable boor filled with generic rage. It’s particularly upsetting because all that good work is undone in the obnoxious Warrior Within. As characters they’re mature, intelligent and flawed – and it’s almost disheartening to play the game now and realise how few other games can match them. The nameless Prince and Princess Farah remain two of gaming’s strongest and most likeable protagonists. ![]() An important additional success is the dialogue and characters. ![]() The controls are elegant and responsive and the only real flaw is the slightly dull combat.
